SCROOGE
You think I could have changed her
mind? That I had any control? That
I could stop the woman I loved from
leaving me!?
As Scrooge gets angrier, Ebenezer slumps further forward in
despair.
PAST
Yes.
Scrooge roars, reaching to grab Past.
Dodging, Past jumps up behind him and claps his hands over
Scrooge’s eyes. Away they go.
EXT. THE FIRM. EVE.
Past removes his hands to reveal the sidewalk outside of
Scrooge’s Firm.
Coming down the walk is a family: FATHER, carrying a load of
Christmas packages; a grown DAUGHTER, hanging on his arm and
bobbling the stack; three younger BROTHERS, wrestling in good
nature; and the laughing mother who is a matronly Isabelle.
SCROOGE
(staring)
Spirit, no.
Past hold his cheeks and makes him watch.
The beautiful family passes The Firm’s window and stops,
looking in.
ISABELLE
It’s Ebenezer Scrooge. And his . .
. partner. Oh, dear.
Isabelle takes a step back in shock, treading on her husband.
THROUGH THE WINDOW is the tableau we’ve seen before. Younger
Scrooge counts money while Marley lies in state just beyond
him.
OUTSIDE. Scrooge looks in at what he was, then turns to the
family on the sidewalk.
Father drops the packages into the Brothers’ arms and takes
Isabelle’s hand.
