San Bakar’s Trial

Lodgok has asked to meet me in a mine where Ranrok digs.

At the bottom of the mine are Ranrok and his Loyalists, who have just finished building their large drill. I collapse the supports, destroying the drill. Now, though, Ranrok confronts me. Victor Rookwood enters with Lodgok in his custody.

Lodgok carries a book. It’s Bragbor’s missing journal. He’s had it all along and kept it from Ranrok, who is — surprise — his brother. With the journal, which describes the location of the last repository, Ranrok needs none of these people anymore. He blasts Lodgok, killing him. Rookwood sees where this is headed for him and shoots an Avada Kedavra at Ranrok. It misses, but in the disorder I’m able to escape the mine.

I hurry to the Map Chamber to tell Fig and the Keepers the news. San Bakar, the fourth Keeper, is astonished that Bragbor kept journals. The Keepers purposely obliviated him. They didn’t know that Isidora was talking with Bragbor, too, or that she left memories behind.

Whatever reservations Bakar may have about me, he must go ahead with his trial. I am to find and tame a particular beast. It’s a Graphorn. After I’ve reduced its health to almost nothing, I can kneel and ask the creature for help.

It lets me mount, and it activates the entrance to the trial. (The Graphorn is now available to ride, like Highwing.)

Inside the cave is Bakar’s pensieve. No stone knights wait for me; fighting the Graphorn was enough of a battle.

Bakar’s memory is of a trip to Isidora’s home. Only her father is there. His eyes are cloudy, like a zombie’s. Horrified, Bakar returns to Rackham to report, but Rackham has his own terrible news. Isidora, the professor, is taking the pain out of her students.

The four Keepers go into a cavern under Hogwarts to confront Isidora. Behind her is an immense glowing ball of power. Everyone has pain, Isidora says, and it’s only your arrogance that keeps us from helping people. The Keepers attack. Isidora tosses off their spell and blasts them across the room. Rackham rises and meets her wand. Rookwood joins him, their two beams fighting against Isidora’s. She’s winning. Bakar rises and hits her with Avada Kedavra. She’s dead.

Back at the Map Chamber, Rackham tells me that they were unable to destroy Isidora’s power sphere, so they decided to protect it and keep it safe. It’s the final repository, the one Ranrok wants.
